Win Sports interviewed me recently to chat about the South American World Cup Qualifiers, my memories about matches against Colombia and my opinion on Colombian players in the Premier League like Davinson Sánchez.

Davinson Sánchez playing for Mourinho’s Tottenham
A change in manager is so important, and for Sánchez it is difficult. Not difficult in a bad way, but in that they are two very different styles of playing football (Mourinho’s style vs. Pocchetino’s style).
With Pocchetino it was more positional, it was about maintaining pressure in the opponent’s half. With Mourinho, he has a more defensive role, where he sees less of the ball.
Memories from matches against Colombia in the 90s
They were tricky games because we knew that Colombia were going to keep the ball and play it around us. I remember that we played at 1:30 pm, in a sticky 40-degree heat. They were the kind of games that you knew were going to be hard before they even started and that you weren’t going to enjoy them much, unless you played exceptionally well.
South American World Cup Qualifiers
The South American World Cup Qualifiers are the most difficult in the world, because at home in Uruguay you have massive games, in Colombia they make you kick off at 1:30 pm, and in Bolivia you play at an altitude of 3,000 metres. Each country tries to make the most of its own resources and this doesn’t happen so much in other places in the world.
